Royal Queensland Golf Club

The Royal Queensland Golf Club remains one of Queensland’s finest and oldest golf clubs (established in 1920). It is an 18-hole course spread along the banks of the Brisbane River with Hawthorne, Bulimba, and Balmoral on the other side and neighbouring Ascot.  Carnegie Clark, a multiple-time champion of the Australian Open designed its original layout in 1920.

In addition, the Brisbane Golf Club is also the only golf course in Australia that uses Champion ultra dwarf Bermuda grass for its greens. The fairways, on the other hand, use couch grass.

Gailes Golf Club

If traditional golf courses are your ideal option, consider this 18-hole Gailes Golf Club, located 25 minutes south of the CBD. It is also one of the only three Queensland golf clubs to have hosted the Australian Open, when it did so in 1955.

This golf course remains one of the oldest in Queensland (established in 1924) and has a welcoming setting with luscious landscapes and wildlife. You’ll also find numerous kangaroos in this course, which are always exciting!

Unlike most others on this list, the Gailes course has minimal water, so it is one of the best courses for wet weather. They have a large driving range and are suitable for players of all skill levels to practice their regular rounds and skills.

The club is located in Wacol, which is about 20 minutes drive from Ipswich in toward West and 20 minutes drive from Logan toward East.

Indooroopilly Golf Club

This 124-acre, 36-hole golf course in Indooroopilly is one of Australia’s most recognised, and its West course ranks among the country’s top 100. It is situated just 10 minutes from the CBD and rests on the banks of the Brisbane River, with Chelmer to the South and Fig Tree Pocket to the South-West.

St Lucia Golf Club

After the Indooroopilly Golf Club relocated to Meiers Rd, the old course was named St Lucia Golf Links. It is an 18-hole public golf course located directly across the river from West End. You’ll find locals and visitors enjoying the tranquillity of the course now and then. Besides, the parking lot is free and can accommodate up to 180 cars!

There is no membership fee required to play golf at St Lucia Golf Links, and the minimum cost of games is $10 (student). There is also a putt-putt course in the garden and rental motor carts, clubs, and buggies.
